Mary Douglas Hawkins

Mary Douglas Hawkins (May 1938 – January 2012).  Douglas joined Galloway & Scott, LLC in November 2010 after the death of her long-time law partner, Douglas Corretti, at the law firm of Corretti, Newsom and Hawkins.  Douglas honored our firm with two years of dedicated work prior to her death.  A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Douglas earned a BS degree from Birmingham Southern in 1960.  She worked as the director of the JCCEO before continuing her education at the University of Utah where she earned a master’s degree in manpower administration.  Douglas then worked as a professor of sociology at the University of Montevallo, where she received tenure while attending the Birmingham School of Law.  She received her Juris Doctor in 1983 and was admitted to the Alabama State Bar.  Douglas’ legal career spanned 28 years, with the first 26 as a partner at Corretti, Newsom & Hawkins.  After the death of her long-time partner, Douglas Corretti, Douglas joined Galloway & Scott, LLC.  Douglas was a member of the Birmingham Bar Association and taught continuing legal education courses, primarily in real estate law.  She focused her practice in the area of mortgage law, zoning, land use and real estate, and successfully represented both developers and landowners in numerous land use and zoning cases over 28 years.

Our firm remembers and honors Douglas as a passionate and skilled atttorney and also as a pragmatic, selfless, and loving woman with an infectious laugh.
